The brief
A bay-fronted 1930s home in Epsom with its original herringbone parquet hidden under a tired, orange-toned finish.
Before & after

Work completed
Old finish removed with a belt sander working across the pattern, the edges and bay window detailed with edge sanders, then fine sanding to take out cross-grain scratches before finishing.
Challenges overcome
Herringbone blocks run in alternating directions, so the sanding has to be planned to avoid visible scratches, and the bay window with its built-in window seat needed careful edge work.
Finish & equipment
Finish applied: Clear finish to bring out the natural colour of the blocks
Equipment & products: Bona Belt sander, Bona edge sanders and dust extraction.
