- The floor
- Two rooms of original pine floorboards in a period Putney house: a living room darkened by old stain and varnish, and a bedroom with the classic dark-stained border left behind by a centre rug.
- What we did
- Old stain and varnish sanded off with a belt sander, edges and hearth surrounds detailed with edge sanders, floorboards lifted and re-fixed where repairs were needed in the bedroom, then fine sanding and a clear lacquer finish.
- The result
- Warm, honey-toned boards in the living room and clean, evenly restored boards in the bedroom – all the original character kept, the tired old finish gone.
